On site Milling
Why not use the trees from your lot? It's not only a 'green' touch,
it makes for a great story on home tours!!
Using peevees and levers,
logs are pushed, pulled,
rolled, and dragged to the
mill.
Once on the lift, the
hydraulics come into play
and complete lifting the log
into place.
Excess bark, dirt, knots,
and in this case, ice are
knocked off as much as
possible.
The operator, Steve
from Action Tree and
Timber, takes a flitch
off the log to make a
square timber with as
little wane as
possible.
After the flitches is cut, they
are stacked in a different pile.
The bark strips can also be
used...the only limit is the
imagination.
The lumber is then stacked
on a trailer ready to be
dried (either by kiln or
naturally), and be used
however they are needed.
Measurements are taken to
ensure the log is true and
then the fun begins!
Once the log has become
square (mostly), the
desired width and height is
decided and the trunk is
then cut into 2X12, or 4X12,
or 1X16, or whatever
lumber is needed and what
the log can provide.
